I’m waiting for….

As soon as my life gets normal.

How many times have you said these words? If you’re anything at all like me, it’s likely been many times!

Or it’s some variation of the same thing. As soon as I finish school and get my degree. As soon as I lose 15 pounds. As soon as I get a new job. As soon as I find another place to live. As soon as the kids leave home.

What are we waiting for??

Why not love the moment we’re in now? Why not love ourselves the way we are now? Why not love our lives right in this moment?

I’m a firm believer that the things happening in our lives (that we have control over) are meant to be. There’s a lesson yet to be learned, there’s a person yet to meet, there’s an opportunity yet to materialize. There is something.

And before you think I’m full of eternal optimism and have a perfect life with nothing bad ever happening, believe me that couldn’t be further from the truth. There are things in my life even at this moment that I’d rather were different. Boy do I ever! But if I’m honest with myself, right down where it matters, I know there is still something to be learned.

I know terrible things happen, things outside of our control – but that isn’t what this post is about.

This is about waiting for life or a time in our life, to be ‘perfect’ before we do something we want to do. Delaying something we really want to experience.

We get so caught up in the future and what it promises, and then we forget to live in the now. We hold off doing something beautiful, memorable, joyful, because we’re waiting for those perfect conditions.

I’m reminded of a story of a gentleman who was going through his wife’s things after she passed away. He found something she was keeping, to be used on a special day. There it was, still to be used, and her time was up. Does anyone remember this story? There was more to it, but that’s all I remember. I guess it’s enough!

If you’re waiting for something to be just right, or the time to be just right, that time is now. Go back to school. Go for that new job. Buy that outfit as you are now and rock it. Start that new hobby. Invest in yourself.

Don’t wait any longer. Don’t put off in doing the things that will bring you joy. Do them now!

Make every moment of your life count. Squeeze every drop of joy out of life as you can, while you can. Don’t wait.
